Minutes for DAV Chapter 200 meeting held October 15, 2009 at the Oneonta Vets Club.
Meeting was opened in proper manner by Cdr. Keidel at 7:15pm.
Opening prayer by Chaplain Coates and Pledge of Allegiance by members and guests.
Officers present were Cdr. Keidel, Jr. Vice Palombo, Treasurer Alvin, Chaplain Coates and Service Officer
Donnelly. Sr. Vice Cdr. Hopper was absent.
13 members and 7 guests attended.
Minutes of September meeting were read and accepted on a motion by Lou, 2nd by Beth.
Treasurers report by Michael Alvin: As of 9/30/09 Savings $3,320.29, New van account $4,647.14, Checking $
The report was accepted on a motion by John, 2nd by Roger.
A bill against the chapter was presented by Laura Thompson for donuts served at the September meeting
$14.98 and lunch material served when NSO Gibney came to the club to do claims on October 5th. $65.68. The
bills were approved on a motion by Beth, 2nd by Grant.
Sickness and Distress:
Walter Henriksen is in Bassett Hospital, 1 Atwell Rd., Cooperstown, NY. 13326 Room 414.
Gary Lord is recovering at home from injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident. 114 Ben McCumber Rd.,
Unadilla, NY. 13849-2261. Cards would be appreciated.
Membership:
Adjutant Thompson reported he was released from active duty on October 15, 1959. Just fifty years from the
date of the chapter meeting October 15, 2009.
One death was reported, David Campbell from Sloansville, NY.
Phillip Sassaman a two year trial member is gone off the roster.
Applications for DAV membership were sent in for Ernest Fayette Franklin and Ernest F. Franklin both of Mt.
Upton, NY.
Transfer requests into Chapter 200 were approved for Patrick D. Flood of Warnerville, NY., Jerome Ventra and
Michael J. Hawley of Oxford, NY. Motion made by Beth and 2nd by Lou.
The memberships and transfers were taken the day Bill Gibney came to the club.
Communications were read and placed out for all to see.
Committee reports:
John Donnelly reported he has spoken to Skip Beijen about placing a moveable wall between the bar room and
the small game room. Skip said he may have some club members that could do the work. John is waiting to hear
from Skip.
National Service Officer William Gibney came to the Vets Club on October 5th. He interviewed several veterans
about claims or questions.
Adjutant Thompson said Wal-Mart did not have a flagpole suitable for the Norwich Webelos Scout Troop. Grant
Coates said he would check with a source in Conklin for a pole and carrying strap. Beth made a motion that we
spend up to $100.00 on the needed equipment. John 2nd the motion and it passed.
Adjutant Thompson reported he had a call from a woman in Stamford whose husband was dying. She had no
idea about any of their business, money, where his papers were or what kind of services he might want. He
advised her as best he could and gave her a form to list all important information.
We need to be sure someone knows our wishes and where our papers are kept. If you would like a copy of these
forms please contact Adjutant Thompson. The form is for your use. Do not give it to the DAV.
Veteran Day Service will by Wednesday November 11th at 11:00am in Neahwa Park, Oneonta. An open house
will be held at the Vets Club after the service. Please bring a dish to pass.
Unfinished Business:
The Forget – Me- Not fundraiser will be November 6&7 at Oneonta Wal-Mart and Oneonta Southside Mall.
Workers are needed at both locations any time between 10:00am and 6:00pm.

New Business:
After some discussion about what to do with the old 2004 DAV van, a motion was made by Lou, 2nd by Beth to
sell the van by sealed bid.
The van will be sold as is where is and advertised in the Pennysaver, Daily Star and on the Chapter and Club
web sites if possible.
The van may be seen at The Oneonta Vets Club, 279 Chestnut St., Oneonta, NY. Bids may be sent to Adjutant
Thompson, 185 Rockdale Rd., Mt. Upton, NY. 13809 or may be left at the Vets Club.
All bids must be received by 7:00pm November 19, 2009 and will be opened at the November meeting of DAV
Chapter 200.
A motion was made by Joe, 2nd by Beth to have lettering put on the new 2009 DAV van at an estimate price of
$100.00. Debbie Ostrander, Susquehanna Signs, Unadilla, NY. will do the work.
The van will have Sidney on the front, rear and both front fenders. Also the phone number used to ride the van
and the chapter web site address will be placed on the back door. The motion carried.
Adjutant Thompson will order 50 chapter sympathy cards from Lynn Card Co. for $42.50
Motion by John, 2nd by Michael passed.
Good of the Order was $26.00
A Memorial Service to departed comrades was held at 8:00pm.
Meeting was adjourned at 9:10 with closing prayer and salute to our flag.
